I thought this was a remarkable idea.
In Color Theory class back in college, I learned that pigments are different from light. It's not only that pigments are for painting and light's for... well, light's for lighting up a room, but it is also that you can create colors differently in pigments than you can with light.
Let's begin from the beginning... red, yellow and blue are the only primary colors. This simply means that every other color comes from some mixture of these three colors. Green being yellow & blue, purple being red & blue, orange being red & yellow, and these are only the secondary colors. Then you go on mixing and you can create every color imaginable to mankind.
But it begins first with only 3 colors.
Well, imagine you're looking at a rainbow, you see the 3 colors and 3 more colors that occur simply because the first 3 colors blended into each other.
Are you following? It gets good. I promise.
Okay, so we've discussed colors in pigments (like Crayola crayons) and we've discussed colors in light (like the rainbow that occurs naturally). And the primary colors (red, yellow & blue) are in both pigments and light and the second 3 (orange, green & purple) are in both pigments and light too.
Now, here's where it gets fun.
When we want to make black and white however, things get a bit turned around. If we want to make the color black in pigments, we have to add all the colors together (mixing red, yellow, and blue) to get black. To get white, you literally have to bleach, or extract color, to get the color white. You could say that pigments are heavy in color penetration.
On the other hand, if we want to make the color black with light, you have to take away all the light. Right? The color black with light is darkness. While if you were to mix all the colors together, you would create the color white - white light.
We talk about white light being the purest light there is. It's the light we use to symbolize what is pure and sacred and divine about the world. It's the color light that emanates from the Sun and the color light that comes from a ghost or apparition. It's even the light at the end of the tunnel when people have near-death experiences. And isn't it interesting that in order to get that white light, you must mix all the colors of the rainbow.
Almost like, how all the colors of you - the shades of you -- must come together to make what is sacred about you -- your spirit and aura.
Interesting, huh?
So remember, don't leave out any part of you... or else you won't have the pure white light that is you, the one people are drawn to. Make sure you include all the colors that make up who you are - and honor them by including them in what is divine about you.
Shine your light on the world.
